Today is the day that the first female cadets were accepted to West Point Academy. The famous military academy allowed women on March 9th, 1976 “after Congress authorized the admission of women to the federal service academies in 1975.”
The first female graduates graduated in 1980. Today, West Point’s new cadets are 15% women. In 1989, Kristin Baker became the first female First Captain.
